tomcat-logrotate

for every tomcat installation, you should need set the log rotation system in order to avoid huge gigas of .out files.

first look for Logrotate to be installed,

luser@host:~> rpm -qa | grep -i logrotate
logrotate-3.7.7-10.30.1

Good!, now create a file named Tomcat-instance in order to point your installation files to be rotated:

[luser@host~]$ cat /etc/logrotate.d/tomcat-installation
/usr/share/apache-tomcat-7.0.37/logs/catalina.out {
 copytruncate
 daily
 rotate 7
 compress
 missingok
 size 100M
}

Last of all you can force the execution doing :

/usr/sbin/logrotate /etc/logrotate.conf

doing this ths catalina.out should be gzipped and a new one will be created from zero size.
